What's new with 1716 from January of 2026?
Our upcoming parties, premieres, and productions.
Turning a page in 2026!
Starting the year off strong, I’m thrilled to dive into detail in regards to some exciting news, and catch you up to speed with what 1716 has been up to in January.
Our short film Shallow released on YouTube!
We’ve been extremely grateful for the response that this piece has received online since its release on January 15th. As of writing this, Shallow sits at just over forty thousand views, and we cannot be more appreciative of every watch!
If you haven’t seen it already, check out the eleven-minute coming-of-age short on our YouTube channel! You can also log your viewing experience and share your thoughts with us on Letterboxd.
Later in January, we shared Shallow with our New York community…
We hosted a joint screening of short films by and for our New York community!
On January 31st, we were joined in the Upper East Side by an audience of 80+ for an electric afternoon of sharing various work that ranged across all genres and styles. Thank you so much to everyone who made it out!
The lineup featured several short films previously associated with 1716; Liz Guenther’s spicy and blood-soaked Femcel; Yannie Tan’s grand and poignant Lili; and my own Shallow.
These were joined by three films from the incredibly talented folks at Cultivision, a New York-based production company spearheaded by the brilliant Colin Tunney:
Stephen Konnovitch explored love on-screen in Colin Tunney’s surreal and nigh magical Looks Like I’m Still Here, as well his own hilarious She Cheated & She’s Awful. Colin’s All My Friends rounded out the program with perfectly-unsettling visuals that completed the full spectrum of comedy to horror.
Finally, I was stoked to bookend the block of shorts by sharing a ten-minute first look at our upcoming feature film Space Cowboy, a coming-of-age drama that we’re taking to festivals this year!
Our New York community can definitely expect more screening events like that in the future, and we’re thrilled to be getting more films and filmmakers involved!
We had a successful shoot for Nowhere But Here!
The sci-fi romcom short film from filmmaker-performer Celine Cheung went into production in late January!
Despite the late hours and freezing cold, the project’s fantastic cast & crew brought the story to life across two overnights in Williamsburg, marking a major milestone for both the project and myself:
With the post process now underway, the piece has become my first experience in managing a narrative short film production in New York City.
I definitely learned a lot, and I’m eager to take a swing at another project in the city soon, but for now I want to thank the team that made Nowhere But Here happen!
I’ll be living in Virginia for the next five weeks!
While I’m excited to return to New York in the spring, I’ll be spending the next month and some change in Richmond, Virginia working as the production manager on a feature-length project that I can hopefully share more about sometime soon!
While this may mean a brief hiatus on hosting in-person events, there’s still a ton to look forward to in February! We have some more exciting news to share soon…
See you soon, and stay posted for next month’s update!
I hope your new year is off to a good start! Stay warm and dry out there.
Stay tuned for more details as they become available, and don’t forget to follow along at @1716digital on all platforms!
